| November 15, 2007: Mexico Center Expands Digitalization of Historical Materials Program |
|
On November 15, 2007, Gabriel Carranza and Tere Hurtado met with Father Francisco Morales of the Provincia del Santo Evangelio Franciscan Order in Puebla to discuss and develop a funding proposal for the digitalization, preservation, and dissemination of historic documents from Spain and the New Spain era. This project is a collaboration between Provincia del Santo Evangelio, A&M's Department of Hispanic Studies, and the Mexico Center. The first draft of this funding proposal is currently being reviewed.

| September-October, 2007: Texas A&M Attends XXV U.S.-Mexico Border Governors Conference |
Since 2005, Texas A&M University has been involved in the creation and development of a Science and Technology Committee for the U.S.-Mexico Border Governors Conference (BGC). The BGC is an annual conference between the states that form the U.S. and Mexico Border Region with the objective of fostering communication between the states on issues of common interest. In order to address the different issues, the governors create work tables; there are 12 work tables including health, tourism, immigration, water, and science and technology, among others. The Science and Technology Committee is the newest work table in the BGC.

| September 26, 2007: Texas A&M Youth Agriculture Symposium Held in Mexico City |
The Mexico Center assisted the Norman E. Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture in the World Food Prize Youth Program. For the first time, Mexican high school students have been provided with the opportunity to participate in this program, which includes the opportunity to interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates during a 3-day educational forum that analyzes current food, nutrition, and science issues.

| August 16-17, 2007: Joint Meeting of the Mexico Center Advisory Board and the University Advisory Committee |
|
On August 16-17, the Mexico Center Advisory Board and members of the newly created University Advisory Committee attended a joint meeting at the Mexico Center. A general overview of the Mexico Center was presented. Additionally, there was a discussion on the Mexico Center's research, education, and outreach programs and activities. Also, following the meeting, A&M participants had the opportunity to attend individual meetings with colleagues in Mexico to further discuss A&M's programs and activities.

| June 14, 2007: Program Review of the Mexico Center |
|
On June 14th, A&M administrators and Advisory Board Members of the Texas A&M University Center in Mexico (Mexico Center) attended a Program Review at the Mexico Center. During the meeting, the group reviewed the Mexico Center's current programs and activities as well as future activities. The Texas A&M University Center in Mexico Advisory Board Meeting is scheduled for August 16-17 at the Mexico Center.

| May 4 , 2007: Visit of the Border Governors' Science & Technology Committee |
|
On May 4, the state representatives of the U.S.-Mexico Border Governors' Conference's Science & Technology Committee met at Texas A&M University. The purpose of this meeting was for the representatives to provide an update on the Committee's accomplishments, review the Cluster Study begin conducted by the Committee, and define the information that will be presented during the 2007 Border Governors' Conference. The Committee also received a briefing from IPECC Representatives and participated in a roundtable discussion entitled "Water Issues Along the U.S.-Mexico Border Region".

| May 2-3, 2007: Visit of Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas |
|
On May 2-3, 2007, two representatives from Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas, Ms. Martha Patricia Carranza and Dr. Ruth Roux Rodriguez, visited A&M to enhance their understanding of the University's Applied Linguistics, Spanish and English language courses and certificates, and Distance Education Programs. The representatives are interested in A&M's overall programs as well as faculty and student exchange programs.

| April 16, 2007: Proyecto Red de Talentos Mexico |
|
On April 16, Mr. José Borjon, Consul for the Institute of Mexicans Abroad for the Office of the General Consulate of Mexico in Houston, and Mr. Daniel González, CEO of SINAPSIS Technologies, presented information on "Proyecto Red de Talentos Mexico", an initiative to expand and integrate the network of Mexican professionals living abroad. This seminar served as an excellent networking opportunity for Mexican professionals here at A&M.

| March 29-30, 2007: Diabetes Seminar |
|
On March 29-30, Dr. Rafael Chorne, coordinator of the University Center for Attention to Diabetic Patients at the Autonomous University of Coahuila, and Dr. Miguel Alvarez, ophthalmologist specialist, traveled to Texas A&M University to visit the campus and meet with Dr. Steve Liu, associate professor in the Department of Computer Science. Drs. Chorne and Alvarez have been working with Dr. Liu on the validation of Liu's Digital Imaging Diabetes Research Laboratory, which uses a retinal scan to test for a predisposition of diabetes. During their visit, Chorne and Alvarez also presented a seminar entitled "New Advances in Preventative Care for Diabetes: Prevention & Remission of Vascular Lesions in Patients with Type II Diabetes."

| March 22, 2007: Science & Technology Committee Meeting |
|
On March 22, representatives from the Science & Technology Committee of the Border Governors' Conference met in Mexico City to review their mission and goals as well as to discuss a proposal with CONACYT to increase mixed funding for research programs for the border region. A science & Technology Committee Meeting will be held in College Station on May 4 in order to prepare for the upcoming 2007 Border Governors' Conference.

| February 28-March 4, 2007: Visit of La Estudiantina |
|
On February 28-March 4, a delegation of 17 representatives from La Estudiantina, a student band from La Salle University in Morelia, Mexico, visited Texas A&M University and the local community. The group participated in campus tours and attended a presentation by Dr. Rick Giardino, Dean of Graduate Studies, on the graduate admissions process into A&M. The group performed around campus and the

local community, including a March 2nd performance and lecture entitiled "Impact of Music in the Improvement of Children with Cerebral Palsy, by Dr. Jesus Vasquez Estupinan, rector of La Salle University. The group enjoyed the opportunity to share the music and culture of Mexico while gaining an insight into local Texas culture. |

| February 6-10, 2007: Research Abroad Seminar |
The first Research Abroad Seminar (RAS), which is modeled after the Faculty Abroad Seminar and resulted from the CONACYT-TAMU Research Program, occurred on February 6-10. Nine A&M professors participated in the trip. Each faculty member visited a CONACYT Center that focused on his/her area of research. The faculty then traveled to Mexico City to discuss the seminar with administrators from VPR and the OGS and to participate in cultural activities. |

| January 27 - February 2, 2007: Visit of Mexico Center Staff |
During the last week of January, some Mexico Center staff members visited Texas A&M University. The staff members participated in an OLAP/MC Staff Retreat as well as the IPO Retreat. Additionally, the staff members took campus tours to learn more about A&M, attended meetings related to ongoing projects, and visited local cultural spots. |
