| June 26-27, 2007: Texas A&M University Meetings with CONACYT |
On June 26-27 at the Mexico Center, A&M administrators met with representatives of CONACYT (National Council on Science and Technology) for three separate meetings.
The first meeting on June 26th allowed the group to discuss the possibility of renewing the CONACYT-TAMU Collaborative Research Agreement. The agreement, established in 2001, expired in 2006 and funded over 76 collaborative projects between A&M and Mexican researchers. A follow-up meeting to continue developing a new agreement will be scheduled for later in the year. Also on June 26th, A&M administrators along with representatives of CONACYT met with the Science and Technology Committee of the U.S.-Mexico Border Governors' Conference in order to review the first draft of the Cluster Study which researches the infrastructure of science and technology related industries along the U.S.-Mexico border. This Cluster Study will be printed as a book and distributed during the 2007 U.S.-Mexico Border Governors' Conference in Sonora. The group also discussed the possibility of research collaborations with CONACYT. Following the meetings on June 26th, A&M administrators met with additional CONACYT representatives on June 27th for the CONACYT-TAMU Full Proposal Review. The group reviewed proposals jointly submitted by A&M and Mexican researchers during the last funding cycle of the 2001-2006 CONACYT-TAMU Collaborative Research Agreement.
