September-October, 2007: Texas A&M Attends XXV U.S.-Mexico Border Governors Conference
Since 2005, Texas A&M University has been involved in the creation and development of a Science and Technology Committee for the U.S.-Mexico Border Governors Conference (BGC). The BGC is an annual conference between the states that form the U.S. and Mexico Border Region with the objective of fostering communication between the states on issues of common interest. In order to address the different issues, the governors create work tables; there are 12 work tables including health, tourism, immigration, water, and science and technology, among others. The Science and Technology Committee is the newest work table in the BGC.

 Advisory Board Meeting
As part of the Science and Technology Committee, the Technical Consultative Team (TCT) acts as a support group to assist the committee in accomplishing its goals and objectives. For the past two years, Dr. Richard Ewing, as Texas A&M University's Vice President for Research, served as the U.S. Chair of the TCT. Additional A&M representatives from VPR and IPO served as support members to the TCT.

As part of the TCT, Texas A&M University assisted in the organization and production of a book entitled "Border Region's Growing Role in Global Economy". This book, which is a cluster study that analyzes the benefits of the U.S. - Mexico border states working cooperatively as an economic bloc, was presented to the state governors during the XXV U.S.-Mexico Border Governors Conference.
