| June 23-27, 2008: Director of Costa Rica Center Returns to Texas A&M University |

Dr. Eugenio Gonzalez, director of the Costa Rica Center, attended meetings on campus on June 23-27. While at Texas A&M, Dr. Gonzalez met with members of the Executive Committee, Operations Committee, and Program Development Committee along with other administrators and faculty. The meetings focused on the operational and program development of the Costa Rica Center. Additionally, Dr. Gonzalez had the opportunity to meet Mr. Bill Soltis, donor of the Costa Rica Center, and his family. Dr. Gonzalez will return to Texas A&M during the week of August 4-8 to attend additional meetings. |

| May 5-9, 2008: Director of the Texas A&M University Research & Education Center in Costa Rica (Costa Rica Center) Visits Texas A&M University |

On May 5-9, 2008, OLAP organized the visit of Dr. Eugenio Gonzalez, the recently hired director of the Costa Rica Center. Dr. Gonzalez, a native of Costa Rica, received his PhD in Forestry Sciences from Texas A&M University, and for the past 15 years, he has been working as he has been working as the director of the Palo Verde Biological Station for the Organization of Tropical Studies, which is located in Costa Rica. Last week, marked Dr. Gonzalez's first week as the director of the Costa Rica Center. During his visit, he met with members of the Costa Rica Executive, Operations, and Program Development Committees as well as faculty and students in order to discuss the Center's establishment and program development.

| April 14-18, 2008: TAMU Delegation's Site Visit to the Costa Rica Research and Education Center |
On April 14-18, 2008, Ms. Maria Alves, assistant director for the Office for Latin American Programs, led a Texas A&M delegation to the site where the Costa Rica Research and Education Center is currently being constructed. The delegation consisted of the following individuals: Dr. Thomas Lacher, department head, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries; Dr. Forster Ndubisi, department head, Department of Architecture and Urban Planning; Dr. Patricia Lynch; clinical professor, Department of Educational Psychology; Dr. Tony Cahill, associate professor, Department of Civil Engineering; Dr. Gil Rosenthal, assistant professor, Department of Biology; Dr. Diego von Vacano, assistant professor, Department of Political Science; and Dr. Jane Flaherty, director, Study Abroad Programs Office. The purpose of this trip was for faculty to enhance their understanding of the site's potential and to establish contacts with universities and institutions in order to better develop their department's research and academic programs.
