| November 11-13, 2007: Visit of Panamanian Delegation |
|
On November 11-13, a delegation from Panama visited Texas A&M University to discuss a proposed Memorandum of Agreement that addresses research collaborations as well as undergraduate and graduate education opportunities. Their visit was a follow-up to the Letter of Cooperation, which was signed between Panama and Texas A&M University during the visit of President Martin Torrijos ’87, President of the Republic of Panama, last February.
The delegation consisted of representatives from the Technological University of Panama, the Gorgas Institute of Health Research, and the National Bureau of Science, Technology, and Innovation for Panama. The delegation met with representatives from the Division of Research and Graduate Studies, deans from the colleges of geosciences, engineering, and business, and representatives from the Norman E. Borlaug Institute of International Agriculture, TTI, and Sponsored Student Services. A proposed Memorandum of Agreement has been drafted and will be reviewed by both parties.

| October 28, 2007: Central America Undergraduate Recruiting Trip |
|
On October 28 through November 1, Maria Alves led an A&M delegation on the second consecutive A&M recruiting trip to Central America. The delegation included Dr. Kriss Boyd, Associate Dean, General Academic Programs; Mr. Scott McDonald; Director of Admissions, Admissions and Records; and Mr. Lynn Barnes, Jr., Director of Special Programs, Student Financial Aid, and the group attend recruiting events and meetings in Panama, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. The Central America Undergraduate Recruiting Trip supports two of the twelve imperatives outlined in Vision 2020: improve undergraduate programs (imperative 2) and diversity and globalization (imperative 6).
As part of the Undergraduate Recruiting Trip, in each of the countries, the A&M delegation met with Education USA Advisors, attended Aggie reunion dinners, and hosted an undergraduate recruiting event. At each of the recruiting events, prospective students learned about Texas A&M University’s diverse programs, admission process, and financial aid opportunities. Students also had the opportunity to meet with the A&M administrators on an individual basis and even begin filling out their applications right there. There was a total of around 185 students who attend the undergraduate recruiting events.

| June 3-5, 2007: Visit of Uruguayan Delegation |
On June 3-5, in conjunction with the Dwight Look College of Engineering, the Office for Latin American Programs hosted a delegation from Uruguay. The delegation was led by Mr. Jorge Lepra, minister of industry, energy, and mining, and included representatives from the Uruguayan government and Uruguayan business leaders. | May 7, 2007: Visit of Ms. Gabriela Paiva |
|
On May 7, the Office for Latin American Programs assisted in the visit of Ms. Gabriela Paiva, a delegate from Chile. Ms. Paiva is the founder of Paiva & Cia-Intellecta, a private law firm specializing in Information Property Rights. Ms. Paiva visited the university’s to learn more about A&M’s research programs, specifically those that address technology, biotechnology, and agricultural sciences.

| April 24, 2007: Food Safety and Quality Conference |
|
Food Safety and Quality Conference
The Food Safety and Quality Conference, which marked the launching of Texas A&M University’s Food Safety & Quality Program in Brazil, was held in São Paulo, Brazil on April 24. There were over 70 conference participants in attendance. Featured conference speakers included representatives from the government and private companies in Brazil as well as food safety and quality experts from the U.S. and Europe.

| April 21-27, 2007: South America Aggie Networking Trip |
|
In April, the Office for Latin American Programs hosted Aggie Reunion Dinners in Argentina and Brazil. The objective of these dinners was to reorganize the Aggie Clubs in these countries by fostering the creation of executive committees.

| March 6, 2007: Visit of Panamanian Delegates |
|
As a follow-up to the February Central America Graduate Information Trip and the TAMU-SENACYT Letter of Cooperation, which was signed during the visit of His Excellency Martín Torrijos Espino, President of the Republic of Panama, Dr. Julio Escobar, National Secretariat for the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Innovation of Panama (SENACYT) and Dr. Victor Sanchez, Dean for Mechanical Engineering at the Universidad Tecnológica de Panama visited Texas A&M University on March 6. During their visit, they met with the Dwight Look College of Engineering as well as the Office of the Vice President for Research. Additionally, they participated in a follow-up meeting with participants from the Central America Graduate Information Trip.

February 27-28, 2007: Visit of His Excellency Martin Torrijos Espino, President of Panama |
|
On February 27-28, President Martin Torrijos Espino, President of the Republic of Panama, and class of 1987, returned to A&M to receive the Outstanding International Alumnus Award. During President Torrijos' visit, he participated in two student leadership discussions, one with the College of Liberal Arts and the other with the Academy for Future International Leaders and A&M student leaders. | attended a private dinner with A&M administrators and participated in an interview with Clear Channel Radio. Additionally, a Letter of Cooperation was signed between Texas A&M University and the National Bureau of Science, Technology and Innovation of Panama (SENACYT). On the evening of February 28th, at The Association of Former Students, President Martin Torrijos was honored as the 2007 Outstanding International Alumnus. |

| February 4-16, 2007: OLAP Visits Brazil |
During the beginning of February, Maria Alves, Assistant Director for the Office for Latin American Programs, traveled to Brasilia, Recife, Sao Paulo, and Florianopolis for the upcoming Safe Quality Food Conference, which will take place in Brazil on April 24. During her trip, Ms. Alves met with food and agricultural representatives from the public and private sectors to explain the conference and to learn more about the food safety rules, regulations, and procedures in Brazil. |

| February 11-17, 2007: Central America Graduate Information Trip |
A delegation of 11 administrators and faculty from across A&M traveled to Central America. The purpose of the trip was to establish a long term relationship with Aggies in Central America and with local universities, to enhance the presence of Texas A&M University in Central America, and to inform prospective students about the graduate opportunities at A&M. During the trip, the group visited Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, and Guatemala. |

In each country, there was an evening graduate information event which included a welcome from a representative of the U.S. Embassy as well as presentations from A&M and local universities. There were around 450 participants for the 4 events. | | |
| January 22, 2007: Richard Ewing Award Presentation and Dinner |
On January 22, 2007, Lic. Enrique Martinez y Martinez, former Governor of Coahuila, Mexico, was presented with the “Richard Ewing Award for Excellence in Science, Technology and Economic Development”. This award was established to recognize the contributions that Richard Ewing, Vice President for Research, has made to research and the promotion of science, technology, and economic development. |

The award recognizes individuals whose contributions have fostered economic development through the promotion of science, technology, and economic development. Following the presentation, a dinner was given in Lic. Martinez y Martinez’s honor. |
