Texas A&M's International Programs Office, in cooperation with the Office of the Associate Provost and Dean of Faculties, the Office of Vice President for Research and Associate Provost for Graduate Studies, and the Faculty Senate International Committee, jointly sponsor the Faculty Abroad Seminar, held at Texas A&M University's Center in Mexico City.

The program is designed to provide opportunities for faculty to establish contacts in research and teaching in Mexico; collaborations and exchanges between TAMU and Mexico's faculty, students, and staff; and to expose and familiarize TAMU faculty to Mexican culture to help facilitate the former goalhttp://olap.tamu.edu Upon return, participating faculty can utilize the contacts made to develop curricula with international dimensions or study abroad courses, to participate in research and teaching related programs, and to develop collaborative teaching and research projects with Mexican colleagues.

While in Mexico, participants have intensive introductory lectures on Mexican culture, history, economics, and current events. These sessions are supported with visits to local areas of interest, such as the internationally acclaimed Museum of Anthropology. Participants then give presentations on their areas of expertise to their counterparts at several Mexican institutions.

Up to ten faculty members are selected, based on pre-reviewed proposals: five participating in developing a teaching experience and the other five in establishing research contacts. Prior to attending the seminar in Mexico City, faculty are required to take a semester-long Spanish course during the previous Spring semester.
