Welcome

Welcome to the Office for Latin American Programs!

We are Texas A&M’s gateway to Latin America. Our role is to develop strategic plans for engagement with the region, to support academic units, faculty, and students in their interactions with Latin America, and to serve as a catalyst in developing and implementing collaborative activities in teaching and learning, research, and community service. The office also provides oversight of and support to Texas A&M’s two centers in the region, the Mexico Center in Bosques de las Lomas, Mexico, D. F., and the Soltis Center for Research and Education in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, Costa Rica.

We work with faculty, staff, and student groups on campus, as well as with universities and other public and private institutions throughout Mexico, Central America and South America. We strive to promote international understanding and to facilitate the development of lasting partnerships across borders, in the conviction that international experiences and cooperation enrich the lives of students and strengthen faculty research efforts. For our students in today’s world, knowledge of other countries and cultures opens many doors.

With its location and cutting-edge research in many fields, Texas A&M University is uniquely placed to serve as a major window onto Latin America, both for Texas and for the United States, and a channel for multi-cultural cooperation. Our mission is to facilitate that role. I invite you to browse these web pages to get a greater understanding of our mission, values, and objectives, and to gain some insight into the ways in which Texas A&M University has been engaged with Latin America. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office for more information about our programs, our partner universities and institutions, and our activities in Latin America.
